Ross announces commissioner campaign

Dr. Gena L. Ross has announced she is running for Presiding Commissioner of Platte County, focusing her campaign on transparency, responsible growth, and keeping local government connected to the people it serves.

Ross, a resident of Platte County since 2010, said her decision to run comes from her commitment to the community she calls home.

“I’ve built my life here and raised my family here,” Ross said. “Like many people in our county, I see how much things are changing. Growth is happening, and we need to make sure it’s planned in a way that works for families—not around them.”

Ross added, “As a parent, a professional, and a community member, I understand how these decisions affect families every day. My focus is on making sure people are heard and that government stays accountable to the people it serves.”

Ross currently works in higher education leadership supporting student success and also serves as an adjunct professor. She has advanced education in public administration and public policy, with a focus on local government management.

Her campaign priorities include:

  • Making county spending more transparent and easier to understand

  • Planning responsibly for growth and infrastructure needs

  • Supporting public safety and essential services

  • Helping strengthen opportunities for local workers and businesses

Ross said she also plans to expand opportunities for residents to engage directly with county leadership.

“I want people to feel like they have a real voice in what happens here,” she said. “That means consistent communication, open meetings, and making sure people see what happens after they share their input.”

Ross said she is also focused on long-term planning for the county’s future.

“We should be thinking not just about next year, but about the next 20 to 25 years,” she said. “The choices we make today will shape what Platte County looks like for the next generation.”

Ross said her campaign is about service, not politics.

“This isn’t about party or titles — it’s about people,” she said. “It’s about making sure county government listens, responds, and works for everyone.”
