Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe last week appointed Blake Sherer as Circuit Judge for Division I of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, serving Platte County.
Sherer has been an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Platte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office since 2014 and is currently the senior sex crimes prosecutor.
Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said, “Governor Kehoe made an outstanding choice, and I have every confidence Blake will serve the citizens of Platte County with fairness and distinction.”
During his career, Sherer has prosecuted the most serious crimes in Platte County, including numerous homicides and crimes against children.
Incoming Platte County Prosecutor Tony Luetkemeyer said, “Platte County has long been recognized as one of the safest counties in Missouri because of the commitment of law enforcement, prosecutors and judges. Blake understands that strong and impartial courts are essential to maintaining that tradition. I know he will bring the same work ethic and common sense to the bench that he has demonstrated throughout his career as a prosecutor.”
In addition to his prosecutorial duties, Sherer recently served on the Platte County Board of Services. He was also previously the chairman of the Clay County Board of Elections.
Sherer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law.
“I am deeply honored by Gov. Kehoe’s confidence and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the people of Platte County,” Sherer said. “I look forward to serving with fairness and integrity for every person who comes before the court.”
The Sixth Circuit Judicial Commission unanimously selected Sherer as one of three nominees submitted to the governor following interviews with applicants for the vacancy.
Sherer succeeds Judge Megan Benton, who was appointed to the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
