A 43-year-old Smithville man died in a one-vehicle crash just after midnight Monday, Dec. 27.
According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash on Smith Road near the intersection of Little Platte Road.
The crash occurred as a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on a private drive. The vehicle failed to make the turn onto Smith Road and struck an embankment on the east side of Smith Road.
The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old male, from Smithville, died at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The name of the deceased was still being withheld as of press time.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team. Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
