South swimming dominates dual with Platte County; Welsh off to fast start for Park Hill

Park Hill South won all 12 events and posted seven Missouri State Swimming and Diving Championships qualifying cuts Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Platte County Community Center North.

Paige Riekhof (two), Georgia Clark (two) and Allison Garrett all had individual state swimming times, while Taylor Young won the 1-meter diving competition with a state total of 252.85 points. Platte County did not have any state times in the dual.

Reikhof won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 58.48 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.37) with state times, while Clark did the same in the 100 backstroke (1:00.04) and 200 individual medley (2:12.57). Garrett’s state cut came with a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.02).

Park Hill South’s 200 medley relay of Clark, Garrett and freshmen Nadya McCullough and Terah Stoker won in 1:57.26 for the final state cut.

McCullough (50 freestyle), Garrett (100 freestyle) and freshman Amy Montalbano (500 freestyle) also had victories for the Panthers. The 200 freestyle (Riekhof, Garrett, McCullough and Stoker) and 400 freestyle relay (Clark, Riekhof, Peyton Weiwel and Sklyar Holloway) teams were also winners.

Platte County’s individual runner-up finishes included Hailee Baer (200 IM), Skylear Perkins (1-meter diving) and Rachel Valentine (100 breaststroke).

Park Hill 111, St. Joseph Central 69

The Trojans dominated their season-opener with junior Nani Welsh posting three individual state cuts on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Park Hill District Aquatic Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Welsh won the 50 freestyle (25.14), 100 freestyle (54.37) and 200 individual medley (2:15.56). Overall, Park Hill took six of the individual races and two of the relays (200 freestyle and 400 freestyle).
