Two injured in car versus train accident

Two people were injured when their car got stuck on railroad tracks and was hit by an oncoming train during last Thursday’s winter storm. According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 11:02 a.m. Feb. 21, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a car versus train collision in the area of 45 Highway and 45 Spur, north of Farley.

The two occupants of the car sustained head injuries and were transported to area hospitals by ambulance. Sheriff’s Dept. spokesperson Capt. Erik Holland said roadways in the area were extremely treacherous and Platte County Public Works responded to the scene and cleared a path for the ambulances to get to the scene and then back out. Holland said initial indications are that the vehicle went around the barricades at the tracks and got stuck on the tracks due to wet snow.
