Vacancy on Park Hill board

A member of the Park Hill Board of Education has resigned, effective immediately.

On Monday, July 21, Layla Barbur resigned from the board. Her term was set to end in April 2026. The process to appoint a replacement is already under way.

According to district officials, when a vacancy occurs on the Board of Education, the remaining members will appoint a person to serve until the next school board election, when a member will be elected for the unexpired term.

Residents who wish to be appointed to the vacancy must apply. Board policy requires the district to provide a minimum of two weeks for residents to apply. Applications opened Friday, July 25 and close at noon on Friday, Aug. 15.

The board will review all applications at the next regularly scheduled board meeting, or at a special meeting called for that purpose. The board may select final candidates to interview in open session, or the board may decide not to interview candidates and make a final selection from the applicants. The board will discuss applications and interview candidates in open session.

The board will make appointments in an open session meeting through a formal motion and second. An affirmative vote by a majority will confirm the appointment.

Once appointed, a person becomes a board member by taking and signing the oath of office. All appointed board members will receive a notice of their obligations to file a financial interest statement and will be notified of the requirement to complete state-mandated training.

Those interested must fill out an application, which is available on the district website at parkhill.k12.mo.us.
