Voters pick Lucas as mayor

In a battle of council members, Quinton Lucas defeated Jolie Justus in a race to be the next mayor of Kansas City.

Justus got 53 percent of the vote in Platte County, but ceded the race as Lucas dominated in Jackson County, getting 63.9 percent of the votes.

With 97 percent of the polls reporting in city-wide, Lucas had 37,314 votes compared to Justus’ 26,193.

Dan Fowler won re-election as the second district councilman to represent Platte County. With 97 percent reporting, he won handily over challenger Kevin McEvoy (6,127-2,761).

Question 1 that limited the use of TIF for development failed by a 2-1 margin overall and 59-40 percent in Platte County.
