West Platte has named Jackson Rumpf as the new head boys basketball coach, the district announced on May 8.
Rumpf takes the program over from Tyler Funk, who will become the new head boys basketball coach at Smithville High School. Funk accumulated a career record of 82-47 with a winning record in all five seasons as West Platte’s head coach.
Rumpf joins West Platte, where he will also teach physical education, after three years at DeKalb High School, serving as the head coach of its Class 1 girls basketball team. In his time in the Buchanan County School District, Rumpf tallied a record of 34-43.
He also served as the head track coach for the boys and girls at DeKalb. He returns to the KCI Conference as a former student-athlete at Mid-Buchanan, where he graduated in 2016 alongside current North Platte head coach Braydn Kemper.
West Platte will begin a new era next winter after graduating its leading scorer, Drake Montez, and four other seniors. After seven consecutive winning seasons, Rumpf hopes to build the next phase of the boys basketball program.
