Platte County Commissioners this week authorized the annual Parks and Recreation Outreach Grants, totaling more than half a million dollars.
At the Monday, March 16 commission administrative session, Director of Parks and Recreation Daniel Erickson presented this year’s grant winners. After approval, the grants will be offered to the organizations and final approval of the awards will occur later this spring. Twenty-one grants will be offered this year, out of 27 applications received.
Grants will be offered to the following:
City of Parkville, for a trail to a inclusive playground at Platte Landing Park, $80,000
City of Riverside, E.H. Young Riverfront Park central restroom, $70,000
Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad, expansion project for picnic grove and World Cup prep, $15,000 and $2,700
North Platte School District, customizable scoreboard, $20,000
City of Camden Point, bench and picnic table replacement along trail, $26,280
City of Dearborn, Vaughn Park shelter and bridge on Dean Park walking trail, $87,056 and $1,000
City of Houston Lake, bridge repair, $50,000
City of Weatherby Lake, community center park playground zipline, $45,013
City of Weston, resurfacing of Holladay Park pickleball/basketball courts and maintenance of city hall, $27,000 and $20,750
Northland Sports Alliance, concessions upgrade and new golf cart, $9,500
Park University/Parkville Nature Sanctuary, signage and drinking fountain, $10,000
Platte County Historical Society, preservation and microfilm enhancements, $4,309
Edgerton Community Betterment, Edgerton Pioneer Days 2026, $2,606
North Platte Historical Museum, music at the museum for three concerts, $400

Several appointments were also approved at the meeting, including the appointment of Tom Baker and Bryan O’Toole to the Parks Board and Beth Biggs and Monique Guerro to the Domestic Violence Shelter Board.
For the sheriff’s office, contracts between the office and the North Platte and West Platte school districts were approved for about $74,000 apiece.
