North Platte golf wraps up inaugural season

The North Platte girls golf team concluded its inaugural season on Oct. 8 at the Class 1 District 4 Tournament held at Cameron Veterans Memorial Golf Course.

The Panthers placed 10th as a team in 519 shots. Tarkio-Fairfax won the tournament with a score of 400, while Stanberry qualified for state as the runner-up in 405 shots.

North Platte was led by senior Taylor Sipes, who played as a No. 2 seed and missed the cut for state qualification by nine strokes. Sipes finished 42-over for a top-30 finish in 115 shots, hitting a birdie on the fifth hole and making par on two others.

The senior duo of Annabell DeBord and Emily Goodlet also won their respective groups. DeBord finished 41st overall in 124 shots, with Goodlet finishing 55th in 137 shots.

The Panthers’ lone junior, Kaitlyn Comer, finished six strokes behind Goodlet to place 55th.

With the first season now completed under head coach Ryan Cook, the Panthers can look back at the history they made and plan for the future. With only one returning player, and others already expressing interest, offseason recruitment will be a major objective.

Before next fall, North Platte will also debut its inaugural boys golf program, which will begin in the spring under a different head coach.
