Park Hill School District will open school year on Aug. 14

The Park Hill board of education last week approved the calendar for the 2019-2020 school year.

Following the annual process of gathering feedback from teachers, parents and support staff, the board approved the recommendation of the calendar committee on Thursday, Jan. 24.

School will start on Wednesday, Aug. 14 with winter break running from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, 2020. Spring break will be March 16-20, 2020. The last day of school is scheduled for a half day on Friday, May 22, 2020, depending on snow days.

With construction on LEAD Innovation Center — the district’s alternative high school program — set to begin in February, the board approved bids for the first phase of construction. An earthwork bid for $969,000 with HB Construction was approved. The total project cost is estimated at $23 million.

At the same site at Northwest 68th Street and Waukomis Drive, Hopewell Elementary School is already under construction. The board approved an easement agreement with Kansas City Power and Light and an aviation and noise easement with the City of Kansas City.
