Serial burglar charged in Platte County

A Kansas City man has been charged in Platte County for taking part in a burglary ring that targeted local dispensaries.

Draper

Dante Draper is charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of felony stealing and two counts of first-degree property damage. The incidents in question in Platte County involve burglaries in April from KC Cannabis and Sunrise Dispensary, both located off Prairie View Road. Draper is accused of stealing at least $750 in cannabis products from each of the two dispensaries. Additionally, it is alleged Draper smashed the glass at Sunrise Dispensary to gain entrance.

Draper’s bond was set at $150,000 cash only, with stipulations for monitored house arrest should his bond be paid.

Draper is facing a slew of burglary and armed criminal action charges from Jackson County as well, and is believed to be connected to a ring including several other men that conducted more than 100 business burglaries in the Kansas City metro area.

In 2024, Kansas City detectives identified a pattern of non-residential burglaries dating back to March 2024, believed to be the work of a network of burglary suspects. The suspects followed a consistent modus operandi: they broke windows of local small businesses, entered, and then they stole, or attempted to steal, items like cash, cash register drawers, and safes. In doing so, they concealed their identities with masks and dark clothing. They often used the same or similar cars when arriving and fleeing the scene.

DNA located in a stolen vehicle used in some of the burglaries was identified as having come from Draper. Records tied to Draper’s phone were then tied to the locations of 18 burglaries in Jackson County.
