A St. Joseph man who sparked a manhunt last week remains in custody in Platte County on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

Multiple units responded to the area and began searching for the suspect using K-9’s to track as well as drone deployment.  Deputies remained in the area searching the Timber Park area, Summit Way neighborhood, and the Prairie Creek Greenway for the suspect until approximately 12:15 p.m. with negative results.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., deputies responded to the 13800 block of Running Horse Road on another reported residential burglary in progress. Upon arrival deputies located and took the suspect, who matched the description in the earlier burglary, into custody. The suspect received medical attention on scene and was transported to the Platte County Detention Center.

When he was apprehended, Tipton was found to have opened multiple containers of food in the victim’s house. He claimed he was hungry and thirsty and had broken into the residence to get food and water.

Tipton has previous convictions for burglary and armed criminal action and was out on parole for first-degree burglary.
