The 2025 Mo-Kan All-Star festivities took an unexpected turn Friday, April 11, at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas.
On a night meant to celebrate the accomplishments of senior boys and girls basketball players in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association Mo-Kan All-Star Games, the most memorable moment came during warmups for the boys game when a Kansas player shattered a backboard following a dunk.
The boys game was postponed due to the damage, though the dunk contest still took place at the opposite end of the court. Park Hill’s Cam Jones represented Missouri with a 360-degree slam in the first round and a windmill dunk in the second, but Rockhurst’s Callen Eskew claimed the dunk contest title.
The evening began with the girls game, where Team Missouri featured four local standouts: Anaya Guess and LaNicia Parker (Park Hill South), Boston Wand (Park Hill), and Lauren Stone (Platte County). Without Stone’s participation, Missouri still dominated from the first tip, building a double-digit lead early and defeating Kansas 58–49.
Wand, a Northwest Missouri State commit, made her presence felt on defense in the first half by blocking a shot and corralling a defensive rebound. She got some more touches in the second half, adding eight points and a pair of offensive boards.
Guess scored four points in the first half, including a second-chance 3-pointer to open the second quarter, putting Missouri ahead 25–14.
After earning a pair of track and field medals earlier in the day at the Kearney Classic Invitational, including a first-place finish in the long jump, Parker contributed on the court in the first quarter with a rebound before racing the other way to hit a mid-range jumper, giving Missouri a 22-14 lead. Parker later had a third-quarter assist to Wand and a fourth-quarter steal.
The boys game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. at Mill Valley High School, with free admission. Park Hill head coach Chad Jones will lead Missouri in his final game with assistance from Justin Leathers. The Missouri squad will include Park Hill seniors Cam Jones and Leo Gayman, along with Park Hill South’s Des Hinson.
