Platte County archery teams set for Nationals

Platte County archery teams are getting their skills in tip-top shape before heading off to Sandy, Utah for the NASP Western National Tournament, where they will compete against schools from 49 states at the Mountain America Center from April 25-26.

Of the more than 1200 high schools ranked nationwide, Platte County High School is ranked No. 23 in 10/15 meter range and No. 33 in 3D, the fourth highest in Missouri. Platte County has hopes of cracking the top 15 at nationals for the first time since 2022.

The Pirates will look to bullseye state champion Jake Sloan, who is ranked No. 16 in the nation at the 10/15 range and No. 35 in 3D as a freshman archer. Justice Martin and Reece Moppin also crack the top 100 nationwide 10/15 range rankings for boys archery. For the girls, sophomore Alexandria Yurko and senior Macie Garland lead the Pirates.

At the middle school level, Platte City Middle School and Platte Purchase Middle School have qualified of the more than 600 member middle schools nationwide. Platte City is led by sixth graders Zoey Miller and Cooper Webb while Platte Purchase is led by sixth grader Michael Minor and seventh grader Morgan Harris.

Siegrist Elementary and Compass Elementary will represent Platte County at the elementary level. Both are ranked inside the top 100 of more than 350 programs nationwide in 3D. Siegrist will look to fourth grader Kendall Webb, one of the state's top elementary archers, and fifth grader Corbin Wade while Compass will look to fifth grader William Whitlow and Delanie Lister.

The tournament will consist of Bullseye and 3D competitions with opportunities to earn unique prizes based on their success. The archers will be competing for a trophy and the following scholarships:

Team Scholarships totaling $54,000 – based on combined overall finished results from both National Tournaments:

● 1st place – $24,000 (24 team members @ $1000 each)

● 2nd place – $18,000 (24 team members @ $750 each)

● 3rd place – $12,000 (24 team members @ $500 each)

Individual Scholarship Shoot-off totaling $30,000 – Top 5 male and female finishers from combined results from both National Tournaments compete at the Championship Tournament:

● 1st place – $5,000 Male & Female

● 2nd place – $4,000 Male & Female

● 3rd place – $3,000 Male & Female

● 4th place – $2,000 Male & Female

● 5th place – $1,000 Male & Female

● Ties – $1,000 each is minimum per qualifying archer
