The inaugural Taste of the Northland will be held this weekend, benefiting Northland Health Alliance and Feed Northland Kids.
The all-you-can-eat and drink fund raiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Embassy Suites at KCI. For a $50 donation, guests can sample food and beverages from numerous Kansas City area restaurants.
“This will be a fun and delicious way to give alongside our healthcare, business and community leaders north of the river,” said Northland Health Alliance Executive Director Emily Fundermann. “For just $50 folks can enjoy bites from our restaurant and beverage partners and rest assured your money is going back to families in our community. This is one place where you’ll get to sample many restaurants and beverages under one roof. Music, photo booth and fun raffles will also be part of the experience.”
Fundermann said the restaurants, beverage and traditional sponsors are all directly fighting hunger in the community.
“We have support from favorite Northland long-time staples like Summitt Grill, Cascones, Pirpopos as well as local catering companies and companies new to the Northland like Char-Bar,” she said.
Other participating restaurants include Third Street Social, Longboards, Swagat Indian Cuisine, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Fitti’s Espresso, Radiance Catering, 816 Smoked Que, Fetterman’s, Luna Azteca, Sunshine and Sugar KC, and more
Beverage sponsors include White Claw, Cinder Block Brewery, Vine Street Brewing, Holladay Distillery, and NYX Lounge.
“Proceeds from Taste of the Northland will directly support efforts to increase access to healthy foods for vulnerable families and residents in Clay and Platte counties, including children and their families,” Fundermann said. “Together, Northland Health Alliance and Feed Northland Kids are working to address food insecurity and improve the health and well-being of our neighbors — right here in our own backyard.”
The event is a first for both the sponsoring organizations and the Northland itself, Fundermann said, as past fund raisers were limited to direct campaigns, trivia nights and 5K races.
“It’s a great way to celebrate the incredible restaurants and beverage options in our community while benefiting our population at the same time,” she said. “Community support is imperative and we look forward to making this an annual event to look forward to.”
