KANSAS CITY – The boys and girls had similar scores – and the same result – when Park Hill and Park Hill South met up for a wrestling dual on Jan. 17.

Park Hill swept Park Hill South on the day, starting with the girl’s match. The Lady Trojans’ toppled their rivals, 66-12, then the Park Hill boys kept the ball rolling with a 63-18 win.

The Lady Panthers’ only had two wins, but the first one was the opening match of the day – Molly Drake pinned Stella Grothaus in 5:38. After Park Hill’s Reilly Kastner (135) and Rylin Beatty (140) won by fall over Savannah Noe and Lucie Henriquez, Park Hill South 145-pounder Julia Smith pinned Izzy Martinez in 57 seconds.

Miranda Grantham and Ella Christensen were in a battle in the 155-weight class and Grantham came away with a 2:55 win by fall. The second fastest pin in the match took 37 seconds by Crystal Tachibmai (235), followed by five more Park Hill wins by fall.

Lyric Ferrlon (105), Ava Meyers (110), Alive Keefe (115), Allison Gonier and Angeline Vargas (125) defeated Lilliam Gay (105), Eva Estrada (110), Elisa Robles (115), Abigail Monaco (120) and Temperance Lowe (125). Vargas only needed 35 seconds for a win by fall, the fastest on the night.

In the boys match, Park Hill South came out of the gate hot, pinning Park Hill in the first matchup – in the 138-weight class. Landen McDowell pinned Davion Seymour in 4:19 to put the Panthers up 6-0, but that lead was short-lived.

Noah Johnson tied the match with a 3:16 win by fall over Connor Jackson in the 144-weight class and the Trojans’ 150-pounder Sammy Mormino pinned Jonah Hicks in 3:55 to put them back on top, which didn’t change for the rest of the way.

Johnson and Mormino were the first two of seven straight Park Hill wins, which included three more wins by fall. Jake Arrington (157), Mason Turner (175) and Ethan Hall (215) all pinned their opponents and Elijah Franco (165) won by forfeit.

In the 190-weight class, Park Hill’s Jim Humphrey and Park Hill South’s Ethan Saft were in a battle. Humphrey ultimately pulled out a 7-0 decision victory to add three points to the score right before Hall’s pin put the Trojans’ ahead 39-6.

Kiros Martin finally got Park Hill South back on the scoreboard, but it was too little, too late. The 285-pounder pinned Samuel Smith in 1:04 to double the Panthers score.

The Trojans won the next three matches, earning six points in each. Caden Brayfield won by fall in 2:43 against Colt Hallquist in the 106-weight class.

The 113-weight class was left open by the Panthers, gifting Mason Brayfield another win albeit by forfeit. Erik Egstad (120) pinned Noah Kleinwolterink in 55 seconds to give Park Hill 63 points for its final win of the evening.

The last match was between Park Hill South’s Magnus Hoenshell and Park Hill’s Kellen Schanz in the 126-weight class. Hoenshell pinned Schanz in 55 seconds.
