West Platte extends win streak to 8 in a row

The quest for a KCI Conference championship took a few steps closer to reality for West Platte last week.

The Bluejays defeat Lawson and Hamilton to stay undefeated in league play with one match remaining — which was on Tuesday, Oct. 16 against North Platte. Results weren’t available by press time, but the Bluejays had already secured a share of the KCI title and would be outright champions with a win against their rivals.

On Thursday, Oct. 11, the Bluejays (24-5-2, 6-0) went on and the road and swept Lawson, 25-13 and 25-20.

Lara Lieske had 10 kills, 13 digs and four blocks for West Platte, while Faith Stevens had 18 assists and 12 digs. Tori Norman added four aces.

The win tally is the most since posting 24 in 2012-13.

Plattsburg 2, North Platte 0

The Panthers were swept 25-22 and 25-18 on Thursday, Oct. 11 in KCI Conference play.

McKenzie Brockhoff had nine kills and 11 digs, while Emily Westwood had 11 digs and two blocks, sharing a team high with Brianna Bridger. Maddy Cheadle added 11 assists for the Panthers (13-12).

West Platte 2, Hamilton 0

Playing at home on Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Bluejays had little issues dispatching the Hornets, 25-9 and 25-6.

Faith Stevens had 11 assists, two digs and had six aces, tied for the team lead with Amanda Lowell. Daire Stelljes had eight kills and Lara Lieske added two blocks.

Mid-Buchanan 2, North Platte 0

The Dragons won 25-11 and 25-19 in KCI Conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Maddy Cheadle had seven assists and shared the team lead in digs at five with McKenzie Brockhoff, who had six kills.

District Tournament

West Platte is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class 1 District 15 Tournament, which will start on Monday, Oct. 22 in Weston.

The Bluejays earned the lone bye and will be idle until Wednesday, Oct. 24, when it will play the winner of Wellington-Napoleon/Northland Christian, the defending Class 1 state champions, at 5 p.m.

The lower part of the bracket features St. Joseph Christian vs. Orrick and North Platte vs. Union Star at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.

The winner of the Christian/Orrick and North Platte/Union Star will play at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 24.

The championship game between the two semifinal winners at 8 p.m.
